Winder Wonderland

"Winter Wonderland" is a Christmas time pop standard written in 1934 by Felix Bernard (composer) and Richard B. Smith (lyricist). It has been recorded many different times by such artists as Bob Dylan, George Strait, Tony Bennett, Karen Carpenter, Perry Como, Bing Crosby, Rosemary Clooney, Eurythmics, Elvis Presley, Goldfrapp, Cyndi Lauper, Darlene Love, Johnny Mathis, Ozzy Osbourne, Dolly Parton, Frank Sinatra, Stryper, Jason Mraz, the Cocteau Twins, Selena Gomez & The Scene, and the Italian singer Enrico Ruggeri.

Dick Smith, a native of Honesdale, Pennsylvania, was reportedly inspired to write the song after seeing Honesdale's Central Park covered in snow. As well as the house he grew up in during the holidays, you can see a cut placed in the window depicting Mr. Smith as a child (information from a relative). Mr. Smith had written the lyrics while in the West Mountain Sanitarium, being treated for tuberculosis, better known back then as consumption. The West Mountain Sanitarium is located off N. Sekol Ave. in Scranton, PA.
